Benxi Man Autonomous County is an important natural secondary wooded protective district in Liaoning Province with plentiful forest products. The forest land covers tan area of 261,000 hectare with the wood storage reaching 13,385,000 m³. The covering rate of the forest reaches 72.8%. In recent years, the county has developed many industries by using the resources of the forestry. Take woods processing as an example. These are such products as joinery board, high density board, integrated timber, high-grade tableware, furniture, etc. The yearly output value is about 400 million yuan.

Benxi Man Autonomous County abounds in medicinal materials, over 300 kinds. The annual output reaches 750 tons. The main types are Ginseng, Liao Herba Asari, Liao Fructus Schisandrae, Radix Astragaliseu Hedysari, tangerine stalk, Radix Acanthopanacis Sednticosi, etc, Liao Herba Asari and Liao Fructus Schisandrae enjoy high reputation both at home and abroad. The annual output of the forest frogs is 100 million in Benxi Man Autonomous County whose oil has unique function of health protection. At present, there are four factories producing forest frog oil with the annual output reaching 2 tons. The edible wild mountain herbs are one of the characteristic industries in Benxi Man Autonomous County. The main types are fern, celery with big leaves, Cinenya, etc. there are altogether over 30 types of the edible wild mountain herbs here. The annual output reaches1000 tons. The fresh-preserved products are on sale as far as Japan, Republic of Korean, Southeast Asia and other countries and areas.

The water resources within the boundaries of the county are very rich with approximately 100 rivers, big or small. The water power reserves of the seven main rives reach 103,000 KW. In the past years, the annual surface water discharge reached 1,4312 billion m³. Four reservoirs have been built, so have 13 small hydroelectric stations, the installed capacity of 33,500 kw. The annual generated energy reaches 115.15 million kwh. The Guanyinge Reservoiris one of the ten biggest reservoirs in Liaoning Province. Its water storage reaches 2.2 billion m³. By relying on rich water resources, we can further introduce technology and equipment, and devote major effors to developing the electric power and the aquaculture industry. According to the reconnaissance and design made by the Water Conservancy Department, another five hydroelectric stations can be set up Taizi River water system and Tang River water system. The installed capacity of these stations will be 16,220 kwh.

The geological natural composition in Benxi Man Autonomous County is complete. It is composed of such parts as the Archean Era, the Proterozoic Era, the Mesozoic Era, etc. There are 132 kinds of the major ascertained mineral reserves, which are distributed over an extensive area. The county is the important base of raw materials in Liaoning Province and in the other places in China, so it is always named as “The Geological Cradle in the Northeast of China”. The mineral reserves which can be extracted are coal, iron, gold, silver, copper, iron sulphide, limestone, graphite, potassium feldspar, calcite, etc. Altogether there are over 30 types. At present, there are more than 300 mining enterprises of diverse kinds and over 50 mineral products processing enterprises. The main products are the metal silicon, ferrosilicon, gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, iron sulphide, dolomite, raw coal, refined iron power, calcite, marble, etc. The recoverable reserves of the anthracite reach 30 million tons. The annual output is one million tons. The recoverable reserves of the iron ore are 30 million tons and the annual output of the refined iron power produced is 0.6 million tons. These products are sold to the markets at home and abroad.
